Getting started

Picture
Contact us to set up an appointment for an initial meeting. This is best done by contacting the individual therapist you'd like to work with on the Who We Are page.

The Commitment

  1. Our full DBT program includes individual therapy, weekly group skills training, phone coaching and a consultation team for our DBT clinicians. Generally, the initial commitment period for DBT is approximately one year (or the length of time it takes to go through all the DBT learning modules twice). Exceptions to this time frame may be made on a case-by-case basis.

  2. You should generally expect to meet with your individual therapist once a week. For our DBT program, weekly individual therapy is required. In addition, you will be asked to keep a daily diary card.

  3. In between sessions, your therapist will be available for telephone coaching, to help you apply new skills in real-life situations. Each therapist has personal policies regarding telephone coaching. We all strive to balance availability with our personal limits.

  4. As in learning a musical instrument or a language, it is important to practice DBT skills every day. There are handouts and homework given at each group meeting. To learn well enough so you have the tools when you need them, attending skills training group regularly, completing the homework and practicing the skills are essential.

Skills Training Groups

We currently have ONE skills training group. This group meets virtually on Tuesday evenings 6:15-7:45 pm.

The group welcome new members at the beginning of a new module. Sometimes that may mean waiting a few weeks, while meeting with your individual therapist.

You must have an individual therapist to participate in a group. That does not have to be someone on our team, nor does it need to be a DBT trained therapist, although that is highly recommended.
